GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Davenport volleyball team got itself back into its winning ways Friday and also put a dent into the Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference standings with a 3-1 win over Indiana Tech, which was one of three first-place teams entering tonight's match. Although both teams split the first two sets by the scores of 25-22, the Lady Panthers went on to win the third set 25-20 and bounced back from a deficit to clinch the fourth set 25-21.

With the win, Davenport improved its record to 18-5 overall and 5-2 in WHAC play while the Warriors dropped to 17-9 overall, 6-1 in the WHAC.

Kelse Moon led the Lady Panthers with 18 kills and 13 digs and Amber Getty tallied 49 assists and dished out 11 digs for a double-double evening. Hannah Stone and Nicole Chase also reached double-digits in the kills' column as the sophomore and junior both collected 13 kills.

After both teams opened the first set winning a pair of points, Davenport found a momentum as it won four straight serves to take an 8-3 lead. Although the Lady Panther never lost the lead since the 2-2 tie, the Warriors played a game of cat-and-mouse with their opponents and managed to catch them at 22-22. The Lady Panthers would use two Warrior attacking errors and a kill by Moon to claim the first set.

The Lady Panthers saw themselves trailing at the start of the second set with a service ace and an attacking error. Although the Warriors had a six-point lead approaching the end of the set, the Lady Panthers were catching up but came up short as the Warriors held on to win the set 25-22.

The third set was a close one as no team led more than two points. In fact, the third set saw only four lead changes and 11 ties. Both teams were tied at 20 apiece when two kills by Moon, one by Getty, along with two attacking errors gave the Lady Panthers a 25-20 third-set victory.

The fourth set started similar to the third as both teams kept the score close. With the set tied at 11, the Warriors looked like they were running away with the lead after winning five straight, but Davenport slowly rallied to even the score at 20. The Lady Panthers claimed both the set and match with the help of a pair of kills by Moon and Chase along with an attacking error.

The Lady Panthers will hit the road for the next five matches, starting with WHAC newcomer Marygrove Oct. 17 at 7 p.m.
