MARIETTA, Ga. – Playing in the Life University round-robin tournament this weekend the Davenport University Rugby team went 3-2. The Panthers two losses came at the hands of both the Life teams. Davenport will be in sevens action again on November 7
th when they compete against Michigan in Ann Arbor.
Davenport cruised in their first match against Wake Forest.
Reece Czarnecki led the way for the Panthers with four tries in the 48-0 win.
In the Panthers second game they took on Life's number two team. This was the first match that Davenport has been shut out in sevens play as Life defeated the Panthers 38-0.
In their third game of the day, Davenport defeated Florida State 21-7. Davenport jumped out to a 14-0 lead with trys by
Travis Kamstra and
Adam Ries. After a Florida State try and conversion,
Mason Baum put the match away with a try.
Next up for the Panthers was Clemson.
Erin Hillary gave the Panthers the early lead with a try. After Clemson scored a try and made the conversion to take the lead
Gabe Sochanek scored to retake the lead for the Panthers. Mike Houston and
Mason Baum each added trys for Davenport to help the Panthers to a 22-7 win.
In the teams final match of the tournament Davenport lost to Life's first team 40-5.
Reece Czarnecki scored the only try in the match for the Panthers.
Davenport 7s will be back in action on November 7
th when they travel to Ann Arbor, Mich. to take on the University of Michigan. This will be their last 7s match before the national tournament at the end of November.
