Box Score LYNCHBURG, Va. – Davenport used a three goal run in the second period to pull away from Liberty and snap their three game losing streak.
Robert Kleiman netted two goals and an assist while
Phil Wendecker returned for the Panthers with a goal and two assists. Davenport and Liberty will be back in action tomorrow night at 7 PM.
Cody Walsh put the Panthers on the board first with a rocket from the blue line that found the back of the net.
Kevin Noble and
Luke McCarthy assisted on the goal. But Liberty was able to tie the game just before the first half.
Davenport came out firing in the second period.
Mason Bohlinger,
Phil Wendecker, and
Stephen Flood scored three consecutive goals for the Panthers to give Davenport a 4-1 lead. Flood's goal came on a breakaway after he forced a Liberty turnover near the Flames blue line. With a minute left in the second period, Liberty scored to cut the lead to two.
To start the third period,
Robert Kleiman netted a power play goal off a pass from
Matt Ogden and
Tyler Quigley to push the Davenport lead back out to three. With 13 minutes left in the third period Liberty scored a power play goal of their own but weren't able to get any closer as Kleiman recorded his second goal of the game to put away the Flames.
Phil Graveline picked up the win in net for the Panthers as he improved his record to 4-3 on the season. Davenport improves to 5-3 on the season. Davenport can clinch the “Blue and Gray Cup” with a win tomorrow. The cup goes to the team that wins the three game season series.
