Davenport Falls to Concordia 2-1 On Senior Night

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – On a night when Davenport honored their two seniors, Jesse Asanin-Miroux and Kevin O'Brien, the Panthers rally from a 2-0 deficit came up short. Ryan Duffy-McGirr scored the goal for the Panthers in the 89th minute on a penalty kick. Davenport will finish up their regular season Saturday when they travel to Detroit to take on Marygrove.

Coming into tonight's match, only one game separated Concordia and Davenport in the WHAC standings. Concordia took a 1-0 lead in the 16th minute on a goal by Ababcar Ndoye. The junior midfielder juggled a cross inside the box and volleyed it into the corner of the net. Davenport applied a lot of pressure in the first half with5 corner kicks, but only registered one shot on net.

In the 56th minute Concordia extended their lead after Jonathan Heslop played a through ball to Pat Gates for a goal. Trailing 2-0, Davenport's offense kept pressuring the Concordia defense. The Panthers recorded 5 shots on net in the second half. Daevnport got on the board in the 89th minute on a penalty kick from Ryan Duff-McGirr. The rally came up short as the panthers failed to score in the final two minutes.

JC Smith led the Panthers offense as he recorded five of the teams seven shots on goal…Mirza Harambasic recorded two saves in net for the Panthers…Davenport will finish the regular season on Saturday as they take on Marygrove who is 6-8-3 overall on the year.
