Davenport Rallies Past Adrian in Overtime

Box Score ADRIAN, Mich. – Davenport came back from a 3-1 deficit late in the third period to stun Adrian in overtime. Trailing by two, Robert Kleiman and Matt Ogden scored 1:21 apart to tie the game with 5:13 remaining in the third period. In the extra period, Tyler Quigley was able to put away the game-winner with 59.1 seconds remaining. Davenport and Adrian will meet again Friday night in the Panthers home-opener.

After falling behind early in the first period, Matt Ogden tied the game with 4:58 remaining in the first. But an Adrian goal with 23 second left in the period put the Panthers behind heading into the second. After 33 minutes of scoreless play, Adrian was able to increase their lead to two when an odd man break resulted in a goal with just under nine minutes to play in the third period.

Down two with 6:34 remaining, Kleiman finished off a pass from Alex Ostrowski and Phil Wendecker to bring the Panthers within one. Less than a minute and a half later, Ogden was able to get behind the Adrian defense and finished the breakaway shorthanded goal to tie the game at three. Zack Blumke and Phil Graveline assisted on the Ogden goal.

The Panthers started the overtime period on the penalty kill and Graveline came up with some big saves to keep Davenport in the game. On the brink of heading to their second consecutive shootout, Wendecker was able to force a turnover near mid-ice and get the puck to  Tyler Quigley who was able to finish with a goal in the top right corner just over the Adrian goalies glove to win it for the Panthers.

Graveline in net was key to the Panthers win tonight coming up with 45 saves on 48 Adrian shots. Graveline and the Panthers' penalty kill were able to prevent Adrian from scoring on all seven of their power play opportunities.

Davenport and Adrian will meet again on Friday night in the Panthers first home game of the season. The puck is scheduled to drop at 8:30 PM at Patterson Ice Center.

Post-Game Quotes – Head Coach Phil Sweeney

Thoughts on game and team's never give in attitude – “The guys just grinded out a win. We were down and I don't think we were getting a ton of breaks. The guys never lost faith and on the bench a lot of positive stuff was going on. They just kept battling and Graveline kept us in it.”

On importance of win and the confidence it gives the team – “It's a huge win. League wise anytime you win in the GLCHL is big. They are a top-5 team in the country and it shows that we can play with the top teams. It's a tough week for us with them twice and Oakland once this weekend and then Oakland twice next week. It's going to be an emotional weekend all around and it's just great to get that first one under our belt.”
