Box Score Video Highlights and Interview

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Davenport took a 1-0 lead in the “Good Luck DUck” series with a 4-2 win Sunday afternoon against Oakland. The Panthers scored one in the first, one in the second, and two in the third en route to the victory. Tyler Quigley scored both of Davenport's third period goals with the last coming on an Oakland empty net to put away the Grizzlies. The Panthers resume the rivalry next weekend with a home and home series.

Robert Kleiman put the Panthers on the board first with a goal at the 7:47 mark in the first period. Dan Zawacki sent a pass to Phil Wendecker at the point who put a shot on net. Kleiman was able to redirect the Wendecker shot and get it past the Oakland goalie. Oakland scored less than two minutes later to tie the game at 1-1 after the first period.

After several minutes of scoreless play to begin the second period, Travis White was able to score a power play goal to regain the lead for the Panthers.  Kleiman assisted on the goal.

Tyler Quigley put the Panthers up two when he scored a few minutes into the third period. Quigley was able to finish off passes Mason Bohlinger and Matt Ogden. After Oakland scored to cut the lead to one, Quigley was able to put away an empty net goal to seal the victory for the Panthers.

Post-Game Quotes – Head Coach Phil Sweeney

Thoughts on game – “It was exciting. It's a Sunday afternoon but the time and day doesn't really matter when it comes to playing Oakland. It's really exciting to get the first game of three to win the duck and this puts us in good position. If we sweep next weekend, we can win the duck.”

Importance of taking 1-0 lead in duck series and getting big GLCHL win – “ There is nothing uglier than the duck in black and gold, so seeing it that way gives our guys a little extra motivation. Conference wise you have to win these games to win the GLCHL and that's our goal and we beat two top-5 GLCHL teams this weekend.”
