Panthers Clinch Nationals Berth with 3-0 Win over Indiana Tech

Box Score

LIVONIA, Mich. – Davenport clinched a berth in their first ever NAIA National Tournament as they swept Indiana Tech 25-21, 25-18, 25-23 to advance to Saturday night's WHAC Championship match at 6:00pm. The win, along with Madonna's morning win over Cornerstone assures that DU will get a bid to the national tournament as the conference gets two bids by having 12 teams.

Sidney Rodriguez and Kelse Moon finished with 15 digs each to lead a Panther defense that limited the offensive-minded Warriors to just a .124 hitting percentage. Nicole Chase led a balanced offensive effort for the Panthers as the junior posted 11 kills while Marcey DeHaan and Kelse Moon each chipped in with eight. Amber Getty finished with 33 assists and eight digs.

After falling behind 12-9 in the opening set, it was all Davenport after that as they used a 9-1 run that was capped by a Hannah Stone kill to go up 18-13. Tech got the margin down to two points at 22-20, but DU received three straight kills from Kelse Moon and Amber Getty to close out the opening set win.

The momentum from the closing points of the opening set carried into the second as DU controlled from the opening serve to go up two sets to none with the 25-18 win. Looking to close out the Warriors and earn a nationals berth, the third set was a tight affair from the first point. Davenport led the entire time until a Tech run gave them a 17-16 lead which was their first since the opening set.

Davenport rallied to go up 21-19 with a kill by Nicole Chase and Moon added on to a Tech error and DU would never let the lead get tied again as they closed out Indiana Tech 25-23.
