Box Score

LIMA, Ohio – The nation's No. 9 ranked Davenport Panthers overcame a sluggish performance on Wednesday night to grab a 79-67 victory over host Northwestern Ohio. Red-shirt junior JaVontae Ford eclipsed the 1000 point mark for his career as he posted 19 points. Davenport improves to 7-1 overall and 3-0 in WHAC play and the team will host Lourdes University on Saturday at 3:00pm at the Student Center.

Three players posted double-figures for the No. 9 ranked Panthers as they escaped Lima, Ohio with a 12-point win over the host Racers. JaVontae Ford finished with 19 points which now makes him the third member of the 1000 point club at Davenport University joining All-Americans James Nelson and Nathan Cox. Also in double-figures was freshman Dominez Burnett who led DU with 20 and Sean Hill with 11.

Northwestern Ohio used a strong start to grab a 24-23 lead just over halfway through the opening half but a 6-0 spurt by the Panthers forced UNOH into a timeout and DU never trailed again for the remainder of the game. The Racers did tie it back up at 33 but a Thomas Drew three-ball put DU out front for good as the Panthers took a 42-39 lead into the break.

The second half was dominated by freshman Dominez Burnett and junior JaVontae Ford as they carried DU to the 12 point win. Burnett accounted for six straight points and Ford three to help DU take a 62-59 lead and make it into a 71-61 margin with just under 5:00 to play.

Davenport shot a blazing 57% from the field compared to just 40.6% from the host Racers as UNOH connected on 9-28 from behind the arc to keep them close throughout the contest. The Panthers also held a 39-24 edge on the glass and picked up 12 steals on the game.

The Panthers will now turn their attention to Lourdes University as they come to the Student Center on Saturday at 3:00pm. The matchup is the first time the two teams will play since last year's WHAC title game.
