THREE GAME WEEKEND: Davenport starts the weekend with the third game of the blue/gray cup against Liberty at Patterson Ice Center. Davenport took the first two games of the series earlier this season in Lynchburg, Va. On Friday the Panthers will travel to Dearborn, Mich. to take on UM-Dearborn in a GLCHL match-up. This will be the first of four meeting between these two teams this season. Davenport and UM-Dearborn will return to Patterson Ice Center on Saturday to complete the home-and-home series.
PANTHERS VERSUS FLAMES: Davenport is 15-14-1 all-time against Liberty but are just 5-6-1 against the Flames at home. The Panthers are 10-6 all-time on the road including two wins earlier this season.
PANTHERS VERSUS WOLVES: The Panthers are 10-3 all-time against UM-Dearborn including a perfect 6-0 against the Wolves at home. On the road, Davenport and UM-Dearborn are tied 3-3 all-time with the Panthers holding a 1-0 edge on a neutral site. Davenport won three of the four meetings last season. The Panthers scored at least 7 goals in all four of those games.
ADRIAN RECAP: Tuesday, Nov. 20 – Davenport dropped a 7-2 decision at Adrian. After Adrian got on the boad first,
Dan Zawacki tied the game at 1-1 after the first period. Adrian then went on a five goal run to break open the close game.
Stephen Flood scored late in the third period to break the Bulldog run. Adrian added another goal late to make it 7-2.
TOUGH STRETCH FOR DU: Following play this weekend, Davenport will host #2 Adrian on Tuesday night before traveling to St. Charles, Mo. next weekend to take on #9 Lindenwood in a pair of games. Davenport wraps up play before the Christmas break with a home-and-home series against cross-town rival Grand Valley State on December 14
th and 15
th.
STREAKS SNAPPED: Davenport had their five game winning streak, which was their longest of the season, snapped in the loss at Adrian. The loss also snapped the Panthers 8-game road winning streak. During the streak the Panthers have beaten up on some of the teams near the bottom of the conference standings having defeated Western Michigan and then swept Kent State and Eastern Michigan. During the streak Davenport has 5.2 goals and outscored their opponents 26-9. The Panthers managed just two goals against Adrian.
SCOUTING LIBERTY: Rick Turner leads the Flames with 23 goals and 39 points in 19 games on the season. Turner's 16 assists is good for second on the team behind Ryley Egan's team leading 17 assists. Egan also leads the team in power play goals with six on the season. Lindsay LeBlanc and Kyle Garcia are the two other skaters with double-digit goals for Liberty with 10 each. Blair Bennett and Clayton Brown have split time in net this season for Liberty. Brown leads the team with a 3.37 goal against average but Bennett isn't far behind with a 3.47 GAA.
SCOUTING UM-DEARBORN: UM-Dearborn will be led by Jase Paciocco and Anthony Olsen who are tied for the team lead with 26 points apiece. Paciocco is tied for the team lead with 10 goals on the season and also has tallied 16 assists. Olsen leads the team with 19 assists. Rob Zubke is the only other Wolve in double-digit goals with 10. The Wolves have used four different goalies this season by Micah Collier is likely to get the start against the Panthers. Collier has a 8-2 record with a 3.20 GAA and a team leading 248 saves.
MOVEMBER: Members of the Davenport D1 Hockey team are participating in "Movember" that encourages men to grow a moustache during the month of November to raise awareness and funds for men's health, specifically prostate and testicular cancer initiatives. The fund-raising efforts are being spearheaded by graduate student and Davenport goalie
Matt Sekosan. The Panthers will be hosting a Movember game on Thursday night when Davenport hosts Liberty. The game is also the final game in the “Blue/Gray Series”. Davenport Movember t-shirts will be on sale during the game for $15.
RANKINGS UPDATE: Davenport entered the season ranked 12th in the ACHA D1 Preseason rankings and after dropping one spot in the third rankings the Panthers have climbed their way in to the top-10 coming in at 7th this past weeks.
