Burnett and Ford Power No. 9 Davenport Past Lourdes 76-57

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Freshman Dominez Burnett and red-shirt junior JaVontae Ford combined for 41 points as Davenport picked up an important league win on Saturday afternoon by defeating Lourdes 76-57. Burnett recorded a new career high 22 points as Davenport improved to 8-1 on the season and 4-0 in WHAC play. The No. 9 ranked Panthers return to the court on Wednesday when they host Siena Heights at 5:30pm.

Dominez Burnett and JaVontae Ford paired together to lead the Davenport offense with 41 points on 13-24 shooting from the field including 5-9 from behind the arc to lift the Panthers to their sixth straight win. Davenport continued to shoot the ball well from the field as they connected on 49.0% of their shots while limiting the Gray Wolves to just 35.1%. Ford grabbed a team high six rebounds while Sean Hills set a new career high with seven assists.

After Davenport opened the first half up 5-3, Lourdes used an 18-6 run to open a 10-point lead (21-11) with 6:38 to play in the first twenty minutes. After a timeout from head coach Burt Paddock, the Panthers took control and outscored the Gray Wolves 19-4 to end the half leading 30-25.

The defensive intensity continued in the second half as Lourdes was limited to just four points for the first 10:25 as Davenport increased their lead to 18 on a three-pointer from Thomas Drew. That span of 17:03 from the first to the second half, Lourdes accounted for just eight points. After posting 10 points in the opening half, Burnett came back with 12 in the second which featured 8-11 from the foul line. Davenport held its largest lead of 26 with 2:23 remaining in the game.

Davenport's win, along with a victory by Concordia over Madonna, puts the Panthers on top of the WHAC standings alone at 4-0. DU will host Siena Heights on Wednesday with the tip scheduled for 5:30pm and then they will head to Southfield on Saturday to face league newcomer Lawrence Tech at 3:00pm.

Sean Hill set a new career high with seven assists as he got his third start of the season…Davenport is now 100-15 under Burt Paddock when taking a lead into the locker room at halftime…The victory lifts DU's record to 60-5 all-time in the Student Center…All 11 players who played posted at least one point…Junior DeArmond Davis tied a career high with four blocks which is also the second most ever in Student Center history
