GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Davenport continued its winning ways over non-conference opponents on their home floor as they picked up a 72-36 win over Kuyper College on Monday night. The victory gets the No. 6 ranked Panthers back in the win column as they sit at 11-2 heading into the Christmas holiday. Davenport is a perfect 23-0 all-time at the Student Center against teams outside of the Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference.

Brendan Cooper and Tre Tigner each finished with season highs in points as Cooper posted four and Tigner nine to help lead a balanced effort for the No. 6 Panthers. All but one player found the scoring column for DU as DeArmond Davis led the charge with 11 points and was joined in double-figures by Dawid Czerniawski with 10.  Derek Brooks stuffed the stat sheet as the sophomore got his first start and finished with three points, six rebounds, four assists and a pair of steals.

The theme of the opening half was short scoring spurts as the Cougars opened the game on a 7-0 run only to see the Panthers rattle off the next six. Kuyper then scored six straight of their own before DU came back with a 7-0 run to tie the game at 13. At the 8:33 mark of the opening half, a layup from DeArmond Davis gave DU a 21-19 lead and it was one they would never relinquish as the Panthers went into the break leading 33-23.

After not allowing a field goal for the final 10:41 of the opening half, DU then held the Cougars for another 2:06 to start the second before Kuyper got a bucket to get within 10 at 35-25 but that would be as close as they would get for the remainder of the game with much of the DU bench getting the playing time in the closing twenty minutes.

An 11-0 run by Davenport that spanned 3:30 and was finished off by a thunderous Dawid Czerniawski dunk, put the Panthers up 46-27 and DU would up that to as many as34 to pick up a win in their final game before the Christmas holiday.

Davenport will head to Babson Park, Fla. next weekend to take part in the Webber International Classic. DU will face Goshen College on the 29th (7:00pm) and then the host Warriors on the 30th (1:00pm).

Post-Game Notes
Davenport remains unbeaten on its home floor against non-conference teams as they improve to 23-0 all-time at the Student Center against non-WHAC foes…Kuyper finished with only five field goals in second half and 11 for the game…The last two times DU has faced Kuyper at home, the Cougars have scored only 69 total points (33-36)
