Davenport Drops Weekend Finale to Lindenwood 6-2

Box Score ST. CHARLES, Mo. – Davenport fell behind early and weren't able to comeback as they fell 6-2 in the weekend finale against Lindenwood. Cody Walsh and Winston Hofer each recorded goals for the Panthers. Davenport will take on cross-town rival GVSU next weekend in their last series before going on winter break.

Davenport came out a little slow to start the game and Lindenwood took advantage by controlling the play for much of the opening period. Lindenwood struck first with a goal 3:56 into the period. The Lions increased the lead to two with just over four minutes remaining in the period. The second Lindenwood goal came 14 seconds after the Panthers killed the only penalty between the two teams of the first period.

Needing to go on a run in the third period, Davenport kept the pressure on early and were rewarded with a Winston Hofer goal just over seven minutes in. Bo Jacobs and Andrew Frank were credited with assists on the goal. Davenport wasn't able to get any closer as Lindenwood added an empty net goal late in the period to defeat the Panthers 6-2.

Davenport will take on cross-town rival Grand Valley State University next weekend in a home-and-home series. The Panthers will travel to GVSU on Friday before returning to Patterson Ice Center on Saturday.

Post-Game Quotes – Head Coach Phil Sweeney

Thoughts on improvement made in third period – “Well we played a lot better in the third because we got back to our shift-by-shift mentality. All we ask from our guys is to win their shifts and make it back into the hockey game. It was 5-1 and if we could get a couple goals back then we could pull the goalie and try to make something out of it and try to get a one period win. But the guys battle back and they won a lot of shifts in the third.”

Thoughts on the week – “Overall I'm happy, beating Adrian and coming to Lindenwood and splitting. I feel like our guys were a little too content with the split today and didn't come out with that hunger that we really need and it really showed. And against teams like Lindenwood you can't take periods off or days off and expect to win.”
