KALAMAZOO, Mich. - Davenport got the help they needed from Adrian as the Bulldogs defeated Oakland, but DU failed to take care of their own game as they fell to Western Michigan 5-2 in Kalamazoo on Friday night. The loss, which is the third straight for DU, drops the Panthers to 19-18 on the season and 14-5 in league play.
Davenport had slim hopes of winning the GLCHL regular season crown but got some help with Adrian defeating rival Oakland earlier in the day. Unfortunately the Panthers could not post a win to get back to even with the Grizzlies as they dropped a 5-2 affair to the Stallions of Western Michigan.
After a scoreless first period, the host Stallions posted the only two goals of the second period to lead 2-0. Davenport came back strong in the third with goals from
Adam Gillikin and
Phil Wendecker, but the DU defense allowed three more WMU goals for the final outcome.
Davenport will host their final home game of the 2011-12 campaign on Saturday at 7:30pm as they host Western Michigan at Patterson Ice Center.
