ADRIAN, Mich. – Davenport was shut-out by the Bulldogs in Adrian Saturday night in the Semifinals of the GLCHL Tournament. Adrian jumped out to a 2-0 lead after one and continues to add on goals to beat the Panthers 6-0. Davenport will be in action again on Friday when they travel to Oakland in the deciding game of the “Good Luck DUck” series.
Davenport put pressure on Adrian early with the help of two power plays opportunities but weren't able to get anything past the Adrian net minder. Adrian responded with the game's first goal by Darrell Boldon with just under nine minutes to play in the period. The shot from the blue line was redirected in front of the net and just got around Phil Graveline.
With 5:14 remaining in the opening period, the Panthers turned the puck over behind the net and Spencer Bonomo was able to capitalize for Adrian, wrapping the puck around for the tough angle goal.
Both teams struggled to get things going for most of the period but a late push by Adrian ended with the Panthers facing a three goal deficit heading into the third period. For the Bulldog goal, Ryan Bachman put a wrist shot in the top left corner of the net with 3:30 remaining in the second period.
Adrian added three more goals in the third period to put away the Panthers.
Davenport will look to regroup heading into next week's deciding game of the “Good Luck DUck” series against Oakland. Davenport and the Golden Grizzlies will be face-off at 8:30 PM on Friday in Rochester, Mich.
Post-Game Quotes - Head Coach Phil Sweeney
Thoughts on Game - "Tonight a young team was introduced to playoff hockey in a tough fasion. Twelve new players on the team got introduced to D1 playoffs. Adrian showed a blue print of what it takes to win in the playoffs. You have to play tough, win battles, block shots, and be tough in the defensive zone. As coaches we need to better prepare our team for the playoffs."
