ROCHESTER, Mich. – Davenport dropped the tiebreaker game of the “Good Luck Duck” series to Oakland 3-2. Oakland jumped out to a 2-0 lead but the Panthers battles back to tie the game at two before a late second period goal put the Grizzlies up for good. Davenport will be in action again next weekend as they begin the National Tournament.
Oakland got on the board first netting a goal just over four minutes into the game. The goal came after the Panthers turned the puck over behind their own net. Three minutes later, the Grizzlies scored again to take two goal lead seven minutes into the game.
With seven minutes left in the opening period, Davenport got on the board with a
Jeff Slusser score.
Mason Bohlinger brought the puck up the ice along the boards before dropping it back to
Ben Dykstra who sent the puck in front of the net for Slusser to finish.
Just past the midway point of the second period,
Brock Carlston tied the game at 2-2 with an unassisted short-handed goal. Carlston brought the puck up the ice and buried a shot from just inside the blue line for the goal. With 2:12 left in the period, Oakland scored to take a 3-2 lead heading into the second intermission.
Davenport had a few chances in the third to get the equalizer including a Dykstra shot that hit the post and a couple good opportunities in the last minute of play but were unable to get anything past the OU net minder.
Matt Sekosan got the start in goal for Davenport giving up three goals on 27 shots. After giving up two goals in the first seven minutes of the game, Sekosan seemed to settle in and allowed only one goal in the remainder of the game.
