GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The 2012 USA men's Collegiate All-American Touring sides were announced earlier this month and Davenport's JP Eloff was among those chosen to represent the USA on the 15s side. The 15s side won their first match 19-17 against Connacht Development, a team of Connacht Academy, Saturday in Ireland.
The All-American Touring sides were selected by scouting over 20,000 collegiate rugby player across the country. A regional network of coaches established a pool of 125 athletes. These athletes were then evaluated by scouts throughout the National Tournament before being selected to the touring sides.
USA Rugby selected both a 15s and 7s side.
Jean Pierre Eloff was selected to the 15s side. Eloff was also considered, but unavailable for the 7s tour tournament due to participating on the 15s side. The 15s side is traveling to Ireland to compete against Provincial Academy teams.
Davenport Assistant Coach Phil Eloff will be on the staff for the 15s team as the backs coach.
In their first match-up, the USA 15s side came back from a 14-3 halftime deficit to defeat host Connacht Development 19-17 on Saturday. The side will be in action again on August 14 when they take on Leinster Academy in Ireland.
