GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Davenport opened Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) play tonight with a quick 3-0 sweep of league newcomer Lawrence Tech.  The Panthers started slow in the opening set but rallied for a 25-20 win and followed with 25-17 and 25-14 marks in the final two to improve to 9-3 overall.  Amber Getty dished out a season high 33 assists in the win as the Panthers will now turn their attention to a home tri-match on Saturday against St. Francis (Ind.) and Judson (Ill.).

Davenport overcame a sluggish start today to defeat WHAC newcomer Lawrence Tech 3-0 in the first ever meeting between the two schools.  Molly Lameyer led a balanced offense for head coach Megan Lenhart as she finished with nine kills and she was followed by Kelse Moon with eight.

After a back and forth start to the opening set, the Blue Devils used some hitting errors by DU to build a 19-16 lead.  The play of Lameyer then took over as the freshman put away three kills along with an assist block to fuel the Panthers on a 9-1 run to end the set up 25-20.

Set two was dominated by the home team after they took an 11-10 deficit halfway through and outscored Lawrence Tech 15-6 the rest of the way. Kelse Moon did most of her damage in the second as the senior finished with four kills on just six attempts with zero errors. DU, as a team, hit .370 in the second set while holding the Blue Devils to .091.

The final set saw Davenport race out to a 10-2 lead highlighted by a pair of terminations each from Moon and Hannah Stone. The lead would grow to as many as 12 at three different points in the set as freshman Hannah Pohlman came off the bench to post three kills on three attempts.

Other stat leaders for the Panthers included Amber Getty with 33 assists, Sidney Rodriguez with 12 digs and Belma Alic with three aces. Davenport will return to the court at 12:00pm on Saturday when they host St. Francis (Ind.) before taking on Judson at 2:00pm.
