Box Score KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Davenport offense put up 11 goals for the second consecutive day as they earned the sweep of Western Michigan with an 11-2 win. Davenport was led by
Phil Wendecker who had four goals and
Robert Kleiman who had two goals and four assists. The Panthers will be back in action next weekend when they compete in the ACHA D1 Showcase in Springfield, Ill.
It didn't take long for the Davenport to pick up from where they left off last night as
Luke McCarthy scored his first goal as a Panther a minute and two seconds into the first period. Four minutes later,
Robert Kleiman became the eleventh different Panther to score this season to give Davenport a two goal advantage.
With 13:20 left in the period, Western Michigan got on the board and after the ensuing faceoff were again able to apply pressure on the Panthers forcing Davenport into a timeout. Following the Panther timeout,
Phil Wendecker was able to put away two lasers from near the blue line to extend the Davenport lead to 4-1 with 9:43 remaining in the period.
Western Michigan added a second goal with 8:26 left in the period to make the score 4-2 in favor of the Panthers heading into the first intermission.
Penalties made it difficult for either offense to get things going in the second period but it was Davenport who would strike first when Wendecker completed his hat trick midway through the period. A few minutes later Western Michigan had a chance to pull a little closer to Davenport but
Phil Graveline came up big on a Stallions penalty shot to keep the Panther advantage at 5-2.
With 5:23 remaining in the second period, Wendecker connected on a pass from Kleiman for the one time for his fourth goal of the game. Davenport added another goal late in the period by
Andrew Frank to take a 7-2 lead.
Early in the third period,
Tyler Quigley converted a penalty shot to extend the Davenport lead and less than a minute later
Alex Ostrowski netted a power play goal to make it 9-2 Davenport.
Blake Damerow and Kleiman each added goals to close out the third period as the Panthers cruised to a 11-2 win.
Phil Graveline picked up his second win of the season in net for Davenport.
Davenport will be back in action next weekend when they play in the ACHA D1 Showcase in Springfield, Ill. The Panthers will take on North Dakota State, Central Oklahoma, and Illinois in the three games for the showcase. Follow @DUAthletics on twitter for live updates during each game.
