PANTHERS VERSUS GOLDEN FLASHES: Davenport will host GLCHL newcomer Kent State this weekend for the first time. Davenport has faced Kent State just two time prior to this weekend with both meeting coming at Kent State earlier this season. In those games, the Panthers cruised to a 6-0 victory in game one and followed that up with a 4-2 win in the weekend finale. Nine different players scored a goal in the series with
Travis White leading the way with two goals.
Phil Graveline picked up the shutout win in game one making 12 saves while
Matt Sekosan got the winning decision in game two allowing two goals and making 13 saves.
WEEKEND RECAP: Saturday, Jan. 12 – With a chance to clinch the “Good Luck Duck” series, the Panthers fell 4-2 (EN) to even the season series at 2-2. After a scoreless first period, Davenport was able to get on the board first in the second on a power play goal by
Matt Ogden. Late in the second Oakland scored to tie the game heading in to the third. The Grizzlies added a goal early in the period to take 2-1 lead but 50 seconds later,
Cody Walsh scored for the Panthers to pull Davenport even with Oakland at 2-2. Oakland scored the game winner with 11:58 left in the third period. The Grizzlies added a fourth goal on a Davenport empty net with 52 seconds remaining.
PROTECTING HOME ICE: Davenport comes into this weekend with a 6-3 record at home. The two regulation losses came against #3 Adrian and #12 Liberty. The Panthers also lost to #7 Oakland at home in a shootout. In their nine home games this season, Davenport has outscored their opponents 44-29. The Panthers finish the regular season with five of their six games at Patterson Ice Center beginning this weekend with a series against Kent State. Following the completion of the regular season, Davneport will also host the GLCHL Tournament on Feb. 15-17. And in between the GLCHL Tournament and the National Tournament, Davenport will host the fifth and deciding game between them and Oakland on Feb. 23
rd. All-time Davenport is 113-32-8 at Patterson Ice Center.
SCOUTING KENT STATE: Kent State will be led by Brandon McPhail who leads the team in goals (10), assists (17), and points (27). Darren Schlueter, Jared Fielden, and Joe Kummerl are each tied for second with 10 assists. Schlueter and Fielden each also have eight goals to give them 18 points on the season. Chad Parise is second on the team with nine goals. Justin Wisniewski will probably get the start in goal for the Golden Flashes. He has a 1-10 record on the season and a 5.87 GAA. He leads the team in GAA, saves (428), and save percentage (0.87).
