Davenport Gets 7th Straight Win at Home; Defeat Eastern Michigan 5-4

Box Score GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.- The Panthers and Eagles went back and forth with each team holding two one goal leads, but it was the Panthers that ended up on top. Trailing 3-2 heading into the third Dustin Wischmeyer and Cody Walsh scored to give Davenport a lead that they would eventually lose. Robert Kleiman regained the lead for the Panthers with 1:19 left in the game as he scored the game winner on a set up by Tyler Quigley.

Under five minutes into the first period it appeared that Eastern Michigan had taken an early lead after a puck was thrown through traffic and found the back of the net. However, the referees decided that the puck was put in by a kicking motion, and the goal was disallowed. Later in the period the Eagles found the back of the net again, and this time it counted. With seven seconds left on a Panthers power play Nick Taurence  beat Panthers goaltender Phil Graveline with a wrist shot from just inside the blue line. With 5:36 left in the first Davenport tied the game 1-1 as Robert Kleiman scored after being set up by Matt Ogden and Luke McCarthy.

The Panthers took their first lead of the game in the second as Ogden kept the puck on a 2-on-1 and deked the goalie for his second point of the night. Davenport held on to the one goal lead for the majority of the period until Bryon Kozlowski batted the puck out of the air and into the net with 1:19 left in the period. At the end of the period the Eagles had one last attack as the clock counted down and Taurence scored as the horn sounded to take a 3-2 lead into the final stanza.

After going from one goal up to one goal down in the final minute of the second the Panthers came out with a sense of urgency to start the third period. Dustin Wischmeyer's score tied the game 3-3 for the Panthers as he knocked in a rebound in front of the net. Less than two minutes later Cody Walsh added a power play goal as he blasted a shot from the point. With less than five minutes to play the Panthers gave up their one goal lead as Bryan Kozlowski picked up his second goal of the game. Davenport continued to be the aggressor in the final five minutes. With 1:19 left in the third period Tyler Quigley centered a pass from behind the net and found Robert Kleiman for the game winning goal.

Post-Game Quotes- Head Coach Phil Sweeney

On mindset heading into the third period “We've been working hard all year getting the mindset that we don't want to lose at home. By any means necessary throw everything at the net and see what happens. We've worked hard all year getting that through the guys heads and I think they grabbed on to that.”
