GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Davenport clinched at least a share of their first Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) crown since 2010 with a 2-1 victory over Cornerstone on Saturday evening. TJ Ifaturoti and Dino Duratovic each scored while senior Mirza Harambasic posted the win in net for the Panthers who are now 14-2-0 overall and undefeated at 8-0 in WHAC play. DU will head to Concordia on Wednesday at 4 p.m. where they can claim their first ever outright title with at least a point.

The hard rain and falling temperatures did not stop the Panthers from picking up their twelfth straight victory on Saturday night nor did their cross-town rival Cornerstone as DU scored a goal in each half and despite a late goal by the Golden Eagles, clinched at least a share of the regular season WHAC crown.

After a few good chances early in the opening half, Davenport finally broke through at 30:45 when Dino Duratovic played a beautiful ball off the back of his foot right to a streaking TJ Ifaturoti who easily put it by the CU keeper and give the Panthers a 1-0 edge. DU had a couple more great chances but CU was able to come up with some big saves to keep it a one-goal game headed into the locker room.

Then just 40 seconds into the second half, Davenport struck again, this time off the foot of Duratovic who took a perfectly placed pass from Dzenan Catic to give the Panthers a 2-0 edge. The assist by Catic tied the freshman for the single season points record (David Wood, 2008 – 36).

Cornerstone kept the fight and pulled within one after scoring off a corner with 16:21 to play but the DU defense held strong over the final minutes in front of keeper Mirza Harambasic who got his 14th win of the season after posting three saves in net.

Davenport now has 24 points on the conference season and clinches at least a share heading into their final two matches at Concordia and home vs. Marygrove. The best any other team can do in the regular season is 24 points (UNOH currently has 15 with three matches to play).
