GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The women's volleyball team faced-off against Beltline rival Aquinas College in their first match of a busy five-match week. Head coach,
Megan Lenhart and her team went into the match looking to build on a six match win streak, which is the teams longest of the season. They were able to up the streak to seven, as they swept Aquinas 3-0. The Lady Panthers will head to Georgetown, Ky. to participate in the Bone Yard Brawl on Friday and Saturday.
Leading the way for the No. 23 ranked Lady Panthers was
Hannah Stone as she posted ten kills in the match and a .429 hitting percentage. Chipping in with nine kills was
Olivia DenHartigh, who is leading the team in kills with 334 on the season.
Amber Getty dished out 36 assist in the match. Defensively,
Sidney Rodriguez led the team with 15 digs in the match.
DU came out determined to take down the crosstown rival Aquinas. They came out fast taking it to the Saints.
Rylee Kuiphoff posted three straight aces in the set. The Panthers took the first set 25-16. The second set was the Panthers most efficient as a team. The Lady Panthers posted a .353 hitting percentage in the set. Davenport took the second set of the match 25-20.
Heading into the third set, the Lady Panthers where looking for their first three game sweep in their last four matches. Lenhart's team did just that. DU came out strong in the set taking a 9-4 lead over the Saints. Aquinas battled back to make the score 9-8. But the Lady Panthers scored a couple points back-to-back and never looked back. They took the third set 25-19. Davenport completed the sweep of their crosstown rival Aquinas College in straight sets 3-0.
The Lady Panthers will head down to Georgetown, Ky. to take part in the Bone Yard Brawl hosted by Georgetown College. While in Kentucky DU will take on three team either ranked in the NAIA top-25 or receiving vote. Davenport will open against Point Park University (Pa.) on Saturday at 11 a.m.
Post-Game Notes
Davenport now moves to 24-7 overall and 8-1 in WHAC play. This is the team's 13th win when going playing a three set match. DU is tied for second in the WHAC with other crosstown rival Cornerstone. The Lady Panthers are now on a seven game win streak and won 18 of their last 20 matches.
