GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Davenport men's Rugby team had a rare appearance at home last weekend as they defeated Michigan State 29-0. Now head coach Kruger Van Biljon and his squad head out east to take on Kutztown University in Pennsylvania. The men's rugby team heads into Kutztown with a 1-0 record and are ranked fourth in the country in the USA Rugby D1-A College Rugby rankings.

Scouting Kutztown – (1-0, East Conference 0-0)
 
Kutztown heads into the matchup with a 1-0 record. There first match came against the University of Albany. Kutztown won in convincing fashion with a score of 81-0, even with some of their key players out. The Golden Bears are led by Gregg Jones and are ranked just behind Davenport at fifth overall in the country. Key players for Jones that did not play against Albany, but should play in the matchup against Davenport, are Gareth Louren, Bruce Dolan (USA Sevens All-American), and Casper Huizenga who is a member of the USA U-20 squad. The Golden Bears are also led by Alex Donahoue and Robert Stortz who both have three tries on the season for Kutztown.
 
The Last Match vs. Kutztown
 
In the last match between the Panthers and Golden Bears, the Golden Bears came out on top 24-22 in Davenport's last match of the year. The match started out with the Panthers taking a 19-12 lead but the Golden Bears closed the game on a 12-3 run to take the match for Kutztown. Jean Pierre Eloff, Knute O'Donnell, and Angus MacLellan all scored tries for the Panthers in the game.

In the first game of the season Davenport defeated Michigan State 29-0 in front of a packed crowd at the Turf Field for the Homecoming game. Jean Pierre Eloff led the Panthers with 14 points in game. Eloff was perfect on penalty goals going 3-for-3. He also chipped in one try. Michael Houston, Travis Kamstra, and Mason Baum all scored tries for the Panthers in the first game of the season.
 
They will look for revenge from last season and look to start off 2-0 in their tough matchup against No. 5 Kutztown University on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Kutztown, Pa.
