Men’s Rugby Steps out of 15s Play to Partake in Their First 7s Competition

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Davenport men's rugby team will step out of 15s competition as they will head to South Bend, Ind. to partake in the University of Notre Dame 7s Invitational. After a tough loss to No. 5 Kutztown University, head coach Kruger VanBiljon will shift the teams focus to 7s this week. The Notre Dame Invitational takes place on Saturday at the Stinson Rugby Field.

Date: Saturday, October 12
Time: All-Day
Location: University of Notre Dame (Stinson Rugby Field)

While at the invitational the Panthers will play the University of Notre Dame and a competitor to be named later. The teams participating in the 7s invitational are Western Michigan, University of Illinois, Lindenwood, Notre Dame, and Davenport. The teams will play two matches each throughout the day.

This will be the first 7s action for the Panthers this season. They will play in two 7s invitationals this season as they hope to grab a bid to the 7s National Tournament in Greensboro, N.C. Coach VanBiljon is really focusing on 15s this season as he has cut pack on 7s play this season.

The Panthers will play in another 7s invitational this next month when they head to Arkansas State to play Lindenwood and Arkansas State in their final 7s invitational of the year.

The next 15s action for Davenport will be back in South Bend, Ind. when they take on Notre Dame's 15 squad on Friday, October 18.
