LIVONIA, Mich. – Davenport entered the 2013 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Tournament on a six-match winning streak but that came to a screeching halt tonight as Lourdes University pulled off a stunning upset over the No. 20 ranked team in the country in five sets. The Gray Wolves won 25-23, 20-25, 22-25, 30-28, 15-10 to extend their season to the semi-finals on Saturday while head coach Megan Lenhart and her team will now await a potential at-large berth to the NAIA National Tournament.

Olivia DenHartigh led a group of four players in double-figure kills with 15 as she was joined by Hannah Stone (14), Nicole Chase (13) and Marcey DeHaan (12). Junior Amber Getty dished out a season high 60 assists while Lexie Spetoskey was the other stat leader with 24 digs.

Lourdes controlled most of the first set until a late rally by the Panthers got them close but the Gray Wolves held off the late push to take a 1-0 lead with the 25-23 win. DU turned it right around in the second by jumping out early and cruising to the 25-20 lead and then followed it with a 25-22 win in the third and it looked as if they would recover from the opening set loss to advance.

The Gray Wolves, who had lost to Davenport in straight sets just over two weeks ago in Grand Rapids, had different ideas and extended their season with a thrilling 30-28 win in the fourth and then dominated the fifth 15-10 for the shocking upset.

Lourdes advances to the semi-final round on Saturday at 12:30pm where they will face No. 3 seed Cornerstone who defeated Siena Heights in straight sets. The other semi-final pits host Madonna (a 3-0 winner over Indiana Tech) against Aquinas College (a 3-2 winner over UNOH)

The Panthers (31-10) will now have to wait until the NAIA office announces its at-large berths to the national tournament on Sunday and Monday.
