Scouting Lourdes – 5-1, 2-0 WHAC – Head coach Andre Smith (4th Year)
Lourdes University enters Saturday's matchup with an overall record of 5-1 while they are 2-0 in league play after defeating UM-Dearborn this past Wednesday. The Gray Wolves have been to the last two NAIA DII National Tournaments and have gotten their thanks to a stout defense. So far this season, LU is allowing only 54.7 points per game and holds their opponents to a measly .395 shooting percentage from the floor. On offense, the Gray Wolves are averaging 70.2 points per night led by Eric Worthey at 14.8. Joining him in double-figures are Zach Steinmetz and Elvin Butler who are each putting up 12.8 per night. Steinmetz is their leading rebounder at 8.0 per game while Jake DuPree is tops with 21 assist on the year. The only setback for Lourdes this season came at the hands of No. 9 Bethel but the Gray Wolves have won their last three games since then and have allowed a total of 144 points (average of 48 per) in those three contests.
A Defensive Rivalry
Davenport and Lourdes have been two of the best defensive teams in the WHAC and the NAIA over the last two seasons and this year is no different with each head coach putting a huge emphasis on that end of the floor. Through five games for LU, the Gray Wolves have allowed a high of 75 points and that came against No. 9 Bethel. DU has allowed 80+ twice but those have come against No. 15 Northwestern and No. RV Cornerstone.
National Tournament Foes
Davenport and Lourdes have both represented thw WHAC at each of the last two NAIA National Tournaments. DU is 3-2 in those two trips while the Gray Wolves are 0-2.
