Next DU event: End of season
MARION, Ind. – A four goal first half was more than enough for the host Indiana Wesleyan Wildcats to put an end to the 2013 men's soccer season as Davenport fell 5-0 in the NAIA National Championship Opening Round. The loss ends a 15-match winning streak for DU as they conclude the campaign with an overall record of 19-3.
A few good chances early in the first half looked to set the tone for the match but unfortunately Davenport was not able to convert as the IWU keeper came up with a big save and a shot by Dino Duratovic was just off the post to keep the score 0-0.
The Wildcats, who had lost to the Panthers 2-0 earlier this season, came back quickly and got their first of four goals in the opening half and then added a quick goal to start the second half for a commanding 5-0 lead.
Davenport did put up 11 shots (4 on goal) which was the same from the host Wildcats (6 on goal) but could not find the back of the net as they saw their record-breaking season come to an abrupt end. The loss also ends a 15-match winning streak as the Panthers conclude their 2013 campaign at 19-3 overall.
Indiana Wesleyan moves on to the final site in Montgomery, Ala. where they will meet No. 2 ranked Lindsey Wilson in the round of 16.
Post-Match Notes
Davenport set numerous school records this season including almost every offensive statistic and 19 wins by the team are the most by five in program history…The match was the last for the five seniors Jai Maw, Mirza Harambasic, Stuart Collins, Damian Goncalves and Donal Lynch as they are the only class to lead their team to a pair of WHAC titles and two NAIA Tournament appearances.
