No. 18 D1 Hockey Finishes Four Game in Six Day Stretch with Adrian on Tuesday

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – After winning three straight games in a three day span, the D1 hockey team closes out their toughest stretch of the season as they close out a four game in six day stretch as they travel to Adrian, Mich. to take on No. 7 Adrian College. Head coach Phil Sweeney will look for his team to keep up the intensity that his team has had recently as look to take down GLCHL leader Adrian. The puck drop for the game will be at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at Arrington Ice Arena.

SCOUTING ADRIAN:
 
Leading the Adrian Bulldogs is Ryan Bachman, who will be representing Team USA at the World University Games; Bachman is leading the team in goals with 19 and points with 32. Leading the team in assists is senior Logan Blackwell with 18 on the season. The Bulldogs will also have two more players representing Team USA at the World University Games in sophomore forward Bobby Bodette and sophomore defenseman Andre Rakas.
 
In net, the Bulldogs have split time between Matt Schnoes at Matt Anderson; Schnoes has a 9-1 record with a 1.50 goal against average with three shutouts and .94 save percentage. Anderson has a 7-2 record with a 3.30 goals against average and a .88 save percentage.
 
LAST MEETING:
 
The last time the Panthers and Bulldogs met was earlier this season on October 25 at Patterson Ice Center, and the Bulldogs were able to run away with the game 4-0. In the game the Bulldogs got a goal in the first and second period, followed by two goals in the third. All the big names showed up for Adrian as Bachman had two points in the game and Bodette, Blackwell and Senate Patton all tallied goals for the Bulldogs in the game.
 
In net Schnoes had one of his three shutouts of the season against the Panthers as he stopped all 33 shots the came his way. Phil Graveline stopped 33 of the 37 shots that were sent his way in the 4-0 loss to the Bulldogs.
 
WEEKEND RECAP:
 
The Panthers had a busy weekend playing three games in three days, as they started the weekend playing against rival Liberty to close out the Blue-Gray Cup that the Flames already won this season. Davenport was able to avoid a season to the Flames as they won a huge game over No. 5 Liberty 3-1. DU also had a two game series against GLCHL foe Eastern Michigan and the Panthers were able to keep the momentum going as they beat the Eagles 7-2 on Friday and 5-1 on Saturday, to sweep a three game in three day stretch.
 
THE PANTHERS:
 
Over a busy weekend on the ice Robert Kleiman was able to tally eight points in the three games to further his team point lead to 25 points on the season, and Phil Wendecker still leads the team in goals as he now has 10 on the season after scoring a goal in each of the games this weekend. Andrew Frank also had a big weekend scoring five points in the final two games against Eastern Michigan.
 
On the back end, Phil Graveline played the first two games of the weekend winning both games making a combined 61 saves and allowing just three goals as he stood on his head in the third period against Liberty to hang to the 3-1 win. Matt Kaludis played in the game on Saturday and played great allowing just one goal as DU beat the Eagles 5-1.
 
GLCHL OUTLOOK:
 
Adrian continues to lead the GLCHL with 42 points, and they hold a 12 point lead over second place Oakland who has 30 points in conference. The Panthers sit in third place overall with 21 points through 11 games on the season. Eastern Michigan is in fourth place with 14 points followed by Western Michigan with 10 points. The final two teams in the conference are Michigan-Dearborn with nine points and Kent State with six points.
