Scouting Grace Bible College – 5-7 – Head coach Gary Bailey (9th Year)
Grace Bible College will be the second NCCAA Division II opponent on the Panthers schedule for 2013-14 as they also played Kuyper College earlier this season. 9th year head coach Gary Bailey has built the Tigers' program into one of the best in the country which includes five national championships in 2006 and then four straight from 2009-12. The 2013-14 Tigers are currently 5-7 overall but two of those losses have come against NCAA DII programs and three to NAIA programs. Grace comes into the matchup on Monday on a two-game winning streak having defeated Northland International and Moody Bible before falling in an exhibition game to Western Illinois. The game against Davenport will be the first of two this week against WHAC schools as they will also play Aquinas on Wednesday.
Last Year vs. Grace Bible
Davenport opened their 2012-13 season with the Tigers of Grace Bible and cruised to an 82-64 win at the Student Center. JaVontae Ford led all scorers with 22 points while graduate Gabe VanderJagt joined current red-shirt Thomas Drew with 15. DU led by 14 at the break and then outscored the Tigers by four in the second. The Tigers were led by 15 points from Greg Salmon.
Grand Rapids rivalry
Grace Bible comes into the week having beaten every other college team in the area other than Aquinas. The Tigers have had much success against Davenport having won six times in their 16 overall meetings but only one of those wins has come in the last five years as Grace won 68-65 at home in coach Paddock's first year at the helm. Under Paddock, Davenport is 6-1 against Grace Bible and head coach Gary Bailey.
