GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Davenport got back on the winning track tonight as they defeated visiting UM-Dearborn 87-48 on Wednesday night at the Student Center. Freshman
Dominez Burnett posted the first double-double of his career as he finished with 19 points and 10 rebounds to help Davenport improve to 22-5 overall and 15-4 in the league. DU will return to the court on Saturday when they travel up the East Beltline to rival Aquinas College for a 3:00 p.m. tip.
Dominez Burnett led a group of three players in double-figures posting a game high 19 points while
DeArmond Davis and
Sean Hill each finished with 10. All 12 players scored for the Panthers as they picked up their 10
th win of the season at the Student Center. UM-Dearborn was led by 14 points from AJ Dombrowski as the Wolves scored 12 points in the first and 36 in the second.
Davenport opened the game on an 8-0 run highlighted by six points from freshman
Dominez Burnett and they never looked back as they allowed only 12 first half points. DU used a second 8-0 run that covered just 39 seconds of game clock to up their lead to 18-6 and the Panthers went into the locker room up 40-12. DU's defense allowed just five opening half field goals and allowed the Wolves to shoot only 22.7% from the field.
Less than two minutes into the second half, DU upped their lead to 35 points after an alley-oop layup by
DeArmond Davis and steal and layup from
Gabe VanderJagt. The lead would grow to as many as 40 on an acrobatic layup from
Sean Hill with just 1:51 remaining.
Davenport, who came into the game shooting over 53% from the floor over their last three games, finished at 56.7% from the floor tonight while limiting the Wolves to just 36.4% and a dismal 7.1% (1-14) from behind the arc. Davenport held a dominating 44-19 edge on the glass and forced UMD into 21 turnovers.
Other stat leaders for DU were
Sean Hill with six assists,
Kyle Stidom with two steals and two blocks which as matched by
JaVontae Ford.
The Panthers head to Aquinas on Saturday for a critical matchup with the Saints whom defeated DU back on January 5 at the Student Center in OT. DU will host Concordia next Wednesday on senior night.

Davenport started out the game by making its first 10 shots from inside the 3-point arc…Davenport maintains its one-game lead in the WHAC standings…The win was the 10
th at home this season for DU which marked the fifth straight year the Panthers have posted double-digit wins at the Student Center…DU is now 65-7 all-time at the Student Center
