Box Score BENSENVILLE, Ill.- The Davenport D1 Hockey team's season came to an end Saturday afternoon as they fell to perennial power house Lindenwood 5-2 in the second round of the ACHA National Tournament. The Panthers struggled generating offense early on and trailed by four goals through two periods of play. Davenport got some offensive production in the third with two power play goals but were unable to complete the comeback.
Through the first two periods the Panthers were plagued by turnovers and struggled to get into an offensive groove. Lindenwood took a 1-0 lead 10:31 into the opening period after Davenport turned the puck over in their own zone.
In the middle of the second period Lindenwood extended their lead to three after a couple of goals squeaked inside the post from tough angles within a five minute stretch. The Lions added another goal on a nice feed in front of the net with 4:01 left in the period to hold a four goal lead heading into the third.
In the third period Davenport was finally able to get some offensive production thanks to a couple penalties on Lindenwood.
Travis White notched the first power play goal for the Panthers with 12:43 left in the game. As White entered the zone the Lions defensemen caught an edge giving White a clear shot on net. Over nine minutes later, DU pulled within two with 3:14 remaining as
Phil Wendecker blasted a shot from the point on the power play. However, Lindenwood buried an empty net goal with 1:40 remaining to put the game out of reach.
Post-Game Notes
Davenport finished the year with a 30-10-1 record…The Panthers outshot the Lions 41-27…This is the second straight season the Panthers lost in the second round of the ACHA National Tournament.
