BOURBANNAIS, Ill. – After a sluggish start to the night, the Davenport volleyball team found their groove as they posted a 3-1 win over Saint Ambrose and 3-0 sweep of host Olivet Nazarene on the first day of the Holiday Inn Express Classic. The pair of wins are the sixth and seventh victories in a row for the Panthers as they now turn their attention to No. 17 Viterbo on Saturday morning which has been selected as the NAIA Match of the Week.

The opening match of a very difficult weekend pitted the Panthers vs. Saint Ambrose (Iowa) and after falling in the opener 25-20, DU ran off the final three sets 25-16, 25-23, 25-15. Three different players finished with 11 kills against the Bees as Olivia DenHartigh, Molly Lameyer and Hannah Stone combined for 33 terminations and a .314 hitting percentage.

In the second match against the host Tigers, DU posted identical 25-19 wins in the first and third sets and squeezed out a 32-30 win in the second to post the sweep. It marked the second straight season DU has defeated the storied volleyball program from ONU.

Davenport was led by a very balanced offense that saw DenHartigh and Nicole Chase each post 13 kills while three other players had five each.

On the day, Amber Getty posted 74 assists while Sidney Rodriguez was tops with 31 digs.

Davenport will play another pair of matches on Saturday and the competition continues to get stronger as they meet No. 17 Viterbo (Wis.) at 11 a.m. and follow it with a 1 p.m. contest against Grand View (Iowa) who is receiving votes in the NAIA Top-25 Poll just like the Panthers. The opening matchup with the V-Hawks has been selected as the NAIA Match of the Week.

Post-Match Notes
The victory over the Bees in the opener is the program's first ever against Saint Ambrose…Since opening the season 2-3 out in California, the Panthers are 10-2 since…Viterbo is coming into Saturday after losing to Cornerstone on Friday
