GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Davenport men's basketball team picked up their sixth straight win tonight as they defeated visiting Marygrove College 101-69. The win lifts the No. 10 ranked Panthers to 16-3 on the season and 9-2 in league action as they will hit the road for their next two contests beginning Saturday at Lourdes (Ohio) at 3 p.m.

Leading the offense for the Panthers was JaVontae Ford with 24 points while Derek Brooks (14) and three others chipped in with double-figures respectively. Other stat leaders for DU were with Kevin Rich with eight rebounds, Braima Hai with seven assists and Ford with five steals. DU finished the night shooting 57.1% from the field.

The opening half was one of runs as the Panthers used one of 11-0 and another of 8-0 to build a 12-point halftime edge. After trailing 7-5 early, DU got nine straight points highlighted by four points from freshman Braima Hai while the other seven came from four other players. Davenport extended their lead to as many as 17 (35-18) but the Mustangs used some late 3-pointers from Jimmy Stewart to climb back to down just 12 at the break.

The second half saw much of the same for the flow of the game as DU used many runs to put away the Mustangs with a furry and much of the scoring came from red-shirt senior JaVontae Ford who ended the night with 24. 11 different players recorded points for the Panthers while DU posted 22 assists on 40 made shots.

The Mustangs finished the night shooting 35.9% from the field and were led in scoring by Darryl Dixon with 19 points. Diante Taylor, the Mustangs leading scorer coming into the contest, had 18.

Davenport will look to extend its winning streak to a season long seven when they face Lourdes in Sylvania, Ohio on Saturday. Tip time is set for 3 p.m. and can be heard live on the Davenport Athletics Network (DAN).
