GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – After a heart breaking loss the night before the D1 Hockey team looked to come back strong in the second game of the weekend against No. 13 Lindenwood. For the first time in four games the Panthers put the first goal of the game on the board, as Robert Kleiman put the first goal of the game on the board. DU never looked back as they took it to the Lions and beat them by the final score of 4-0. Kleiman scored two goals in the game to lead the way for the Panthers. Davenport will continue the Good Luck DUck series next weekend as they have a home-and-home series with Oakland next weekend.

DU came out hard to start the game playing their systems and setting the pace of the game early in the period. For the first time in four games game the Panthers scored the first goal of the game as Robert Kleiman came down and buried a loose puck to give Davenport the 1-0 lead. As the period wore on DU kept charging at the net looking to increase their lead before the first intermission, but could not add a goal as the Panthers took a 1-0 lead into the locker room.

In the second period, Davenport continued to dominate play, but took some penalties to give Lindenwood power play chances. The Lions power play chances included a full two-minute five-on-three advantage, but the Panther penalty kill stood strong, and Phil Graveline kept the lead for the Panthers. With less than five minutes left in the period Bo Jacobs was able to jam a goal home for the Panthers to increase their lead to two goals.

Just 56 seconds later Tyler Layle blasted a puck from the point to give DU a 3-0 lead with just over three minutes to play in the period. The physicality in the game continued as the both teams traded hit for hit and the Panthers took the 3-0 lead in to the break.

The third period opened with Kleiman scoring his second goal of the game and pushing the Panthers lead to four goals. Lindenwood had a couple flurries of sustained offense in the Davenport end, but Graveline continued to come up with some big saves to keep the puck of the net.

In the final minutes of the game and the physicality between both teams really picked up and both teams had special teams chances, but neither could scores as both net minders stood tall. DU was able to keep the Lions off the scoreboard to take the 4-0 win.

After the game head coach Phil Sweeney talked about his teams start to the game tonight, " We started the blue line tonight with Flood, Ogden and Eckler, they came out and set the one for the game with a couple big hits. The team really fed off of that and if we play physical we will be tough to beat I have said that for a long time, we are good hockey team and tonight we proved it."

Stephen Flood talked about the teams penalty kill, "Last game they had a couple power plays and we knew we really had to bear down today. We had a couple 5-on-4's, 5-on3's, we really just bared down right there. We blocked a bunch of shots and Graveline was standing on his head, and we wanted to block the shots in front him.

The Panthers will head to Rochester, Mich. next Friday as they take on Oakland in the third game of the Good Luck DUck series with the puck scheduled for 8:20 p.m.
