LIVONIA, Mich.  – Davenport moves into a tie for first place in WHAC play after upsetting No. 9 Madonna in four sets 25-21, 25-16, 20-25, and 25-19. The road victory is the first ever for the Panthers (13-4; 8-1 WHAC) over the Crusaders who haven't lost on their home court since 2010. Â
The first set of the match started out will DU trailing by as many as 4 points but the Panthers used a 6 point rally mid-way through to go up 17-15 and notch the 25-21 win. Another 6 point run in set two proved to be the difference again giving the Panthers a 2-0 lead with the 25-16 win. Davenport came out swinging in set one hitting .361 and followed that up with a .268 percentage in set two.
Set three and four were both back and forth performances combining for a total of 17 ties and Madonna taking the third (20-25) and Davenport sealing the win in the fourth (25-19). Â
Junior
Marcey DeHaan had a season high night with 21 kills and a .581 hitting percentage.
Hannah Stone was right behind with 14 kills, followed by
Krissy Dill (8) and
Molly Lameyer (7).
Belma Alic led the defensive effort as she posted 26 digs while Freshman
Morgan Torres chipped in with 15 and Stone posted 6 blocks.
Amber Getty had another all-around match finishing with 50 assists, 5 kills and 3 blocks.
Davenport will look to extend their 4 match win streak with another 7 p.m. road contest Friday at Lourdes University.
