Day One of Panther Invite Leaves No. 15 Volleyball with a Split

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.  – The No. 15 ranked volleyball team took on two other Top-25 teams on day one of their annual Panther Invitational and was victorious 3-1 against No. 23 Ashford University and fell in straight sets to No. 7 Viterbo. DU will continue the tournament tomorrow at 10 a.m against Olivet Nazarene before finishing the weekend with No. RV St. Thomas (Fla.) at 4 p.m.

Match 1 – Davenport 3, #23 Ashford 1 (25-17, 25-21, 20-25, 25-13)
Davenport extended their win streak to eight games after defeating the Saints for the third straight time in program history. Amber Getty tied her season high for assists in a match with 53 while four other Panthers posted double-digits in kills. (Marcey DeHaan – 19, Hannah Stone – 13, Molly Lameyer – 11, and Krissy Dill – 10).

The defense tallied 10.0 blocks and limited the Saints offense to a .138 hitting percentage as Morgan Torres (22), Krissy Dill (18), Belma Alic (16) and Lexie Spetoskey (11) led the digging effort.

Match 2 – Davenport 0, #7 Viterbo (27-29, 19-25, 23-25)
In the final match of the day heavy hitting from Viterbo and key DU errors were the difference in the straight sets loss to the No. 7 V-Hawks. Davenport was held to a .061 over all hitting percentage while just two Panthers saw themselves in the double digit kill category. (Hannah Stone – 11 and Marcey DeHaan – 10).

Stone was solid at the net with nine block assists that placed her first in the DU career record books passing Nicole Chase for total career blocks (443) and career block assists (389).

Davenport is now 17-5 overall and will play Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) at 10 a.m. on Saturday morning before facing No. RV St. Thomas at 4 p.m.
