GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. –
Letesha Cannonier's first two goals of the season came at a perfect time.
After allowing Indiana Tech's leading scorer Tori Singstock to score 11 minutes into the contest, the No. 14 Davenport women's soccer team knocked on the door numerous times trying to find an equalizer. Cannonier delivered that in the 73
rd minute and knocked in the golden goal in the 103
rd to complete the 2-1 double-overtime win Saturday.
Davenport got back into the win column following a tough loss Wednesday and enters the new week 9-3-1 overall, 3-2-0 in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference. The Panthers also kept the Warriors (6-7-0) winless in league play after five attempts.
Although the first half saw the Warriors controlling the possession, the Panthers did have numerous chances to find the back of the net for the entirety of the match, outshooting Indiana Tech 15-3 on goal. Cannonier's equalizer in the 73
rd minute came after a cross on the right side by
Ellie Chandler found the head of
Paige Eli with a Warrior defender next to her. Eli knocked the ball down in front of Cannonier to allow the fellow England native to deliver the tying goal.
Cannonier's golden goal in the 103
rd minute came off a breakaway. Her first shot appeared to be deflected off the crossbar after if ricocheted from Warrior netminder Bre Wojnarowski. Cannonier kept her breakaway momentum going as she made sure the loose ball went into the net.
Davenport has the week off to prepare for a road trip to Madonna Saturday. Kickoff is slated for noon.
