Grand Rapids, Mich. – The Davenport men's hockey team returned to the Patterson Ice Center to host undefeated #3 Adrian on Friday night. The Panthers were able to play aggressive hocley in the first and third periods, but it was a four-goal outburst from the Bulldogs in the second period that put the Panthers away as Adrian defeated Davenport by a score of 4-1. The Panthers will travel east of the mitten to take on Oakland University next Friday at 8:20 p.m.
Â
The first period started out with a showcase of strong defensive play from both the Panthers and the Bulldogs as neither team could put any points on the scoreboard in the first 20 minutes of play. Davenport found themselves in Adrian territory early and often, but could not take advantage of their three power play opportunities.
Â
The second period sang a different story, as Adrian was able to find a solution to their offensive problems in the first period and chalked up three goals within the first 12 minutes. With 3 minutes left in the second, Matt O'Neil found the back of the net and sent the Bulldogs into the 2
nd intermission with a 4-0 lead.
Â
Davenport found scoring life in the third period as
Travis White found the back of the net with 11:06 left in the third period, as the Panthers kept the Bulldogs from scoring for the rest of the game. Unfortunately, Adrian's four 2
nd period goals were too much for the Panthers as the Bulldogs improved to 11-0 on the season.
Â
Davenport was granted 10 power play opportunities on the night, yet they were unable to execute on any of their chances.
Â
Matt Kaludis recorded 28 saves for the Panthers, and was able to keep Adrian scoreless in the first and third period.
Â
Davenport will travel to Rohester, Mich. next weekend, as they will square off against Oakland University in a two-game weekend series. The puck drops on 8:20 p.m. Friday night, and 8:52 p.m. on Saturday night.
