ROCHESTER, Mich. – The Davenport D1 hockey team was back in action on Saturday night after taking game one of the Good Luck DUck series against Oakland on Friday night. Jordan Simmonds and Kody Polin led the way for the team with three goals each. DU is now 4-3-0-1 on the season and will have a home-and-home series against Rochester College starting on Friday at 7:15 p.m. in Rochester, Mich. The series will conclude at Patterson Ice Center on Saturday at 5:30 p.m.

The Panthers picked up where they left off from the night before, as Kody Polin put Davenport on the board in the first 25 seconds of the game. After Oakland tied the game at one, Andrew Frank came back to give Davenport a one goal lead. Jordan Simmonds than put Davenport ahead by two goals on his first goal in three games, but Oakland was able to grab a power play goal before the end of the period to make it a one goal game after the first period.

The scoring continued in the second period, as Oakland tallied the first two goals of the period to take their first lead of the game, but Davenport battled back to tie the game at four heading into the third period.

In the third period, both teams continued to jockey back-and-forth for the lead, as Davenport took a 5-4 lead on another goal from Simmonds. Oakland than rattled off the next three goals to take a 7-5 lead with less than ten minutes left in the third period. Davenport battled back from the two goal deficit to force overtime.

Davenport had to kill a penalty to start the overtime period, and the Panthers did just that as both team battled for the game winning goal in overtime. Neither team could find the back of the net as the game went into a shootout. In the shootout, Oakland was able to go 2-for-2, while Davenport went 0-for-3. The Grizzles won the game 8-7 to tie the Good Luck DUck series at one game apiece.

After the game head coach Phil Sweeney talked about his thoughts on the game, "We lost a tough one tonight. I am very happy with the play of a lot of the guys again tonight. The line of Chris Eckler, Jordan Simmonds and Kody Polin scored six goals; and the Matt Ogden, Stephen Flood and Zack Blumke line shut down their top line as they scored just once. We are heading in the right direction, and we took huge strides this weekend."

The Panthers will head back to Rochester, Mich. next Friday to start a home-and-home series with Rochester College at 7:15 p.m.
