Three Players in Double Figures Leads Men’s Basketball to Home Opening Win

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The fourth-ranked Davenport men's basketball team played their first game at home on Monday night against Purdue-North Central. DU had three players in double figures en route to an 86-57 victory over Purdue North-Central. Dominez Burnett led all scorers with 19 points in the game and Kevin Rich was right behind with 18 points. DU will start their conference schedule on Saturday when they host Northwestern Ohio on Saturday at 7:45 p.m.
 
Davenport had their shooting touch in the game today as they shot 58.0 percent from the field and was 63.6 percent from behind the arc. Kevin Rich was 4-for-5 from three and Jason Jordan went 3-for-3 from behind arc for all nine of his points.
 
Both teams battled in close game halfway through the first half as Davenport led by seven with 7:57 left in the half. After a three pointer from Kevin Rich, Davenport started to pull away as they led by 20 points with 4:11 remaining in the first half. Purdue-North Central kept the game close down the stretch in the half as they pulled within 13 points heading into half as DU led 40-27.
 
After shooting 50 percent in the first half DU continued their hot shooting as they shot 68.2 percent from the field in the second half, and they went 4-for-4 from behind the arc. Davenport also played stingy defense against Purdue-North Central as they held them to 34.5 percent shooting in the game. Dawid Czerniawski and Dominez Burnett both put up 12 points in the second half as Davenport closed out an 87-56 win over Purdue-North Central.
 
The Panthers will now focus on their WHAC schedule as they start conference play on Saturday at 7:45 p.m. against Northwestern Ohio at the DU Student Center.
 
Post-Game Notes
 
Dawid Czerniawski tied his career high in points with 14 in the game and Kevin Rich set new career highs in assists and rebounds with six and seven, respectively… Davenport out-rebounded Purdue-North Central 45-28 in the game as Rich and Czerniawski led DU in rebounding with seven boards a piece.
