GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.  – The Panthers started the 2014 WHAC Tournament in dominating fashion with a 3-0 victory over the number eight seed Indiana Tech. Davenport improves to 32-7 on the year and now advances to the semifinals tomorrow at 12 p.m. against Aquinas who defeated Cornerstone in thrilling fashion 3-2.
The offense had its way against the Warriors' defense on Friday night as the Panthers hit .243 as a team (.481 in set three) led by 10 kills from both
Marcey DeHaan and
Hannah Stone.
Amber Getty finished with 34 assists while three Panthers recorded double-digits in digs (
Morgan Torres – 14,
Krissy Dill – 12 and
Lexie Spetoskey – 12).
Davenport jumped out to a quick 11-3 lead in set one but an 8-2 run by Indiana Tech brought the Warriors to within two points 13-11. Back and forth play followed and the DU lead stayed at only one (16-15) but DU's offense got hot and put together a 9-4 run to finish the set with a win 25-19.
19 would be the most points DU would allow as they won the next two sets in quick fashion 25-15 and 25-11. In the final set the Panthers posted a .481 hitting percentage on 15 kills.
Davenport will now face Aquinas in the semifinals of the WHAC tournament tomorrow at 12 p.m. in the DU Student Center. Winner will advance to the finals slated to start at 3 p.m.
