KALAMAZOO, Mich. – After capturing the Blue-Gray Cup by defeating Liberty on Thursday, the D1 hockey team grabbed another win as they beat Western Michigan 3-1. Davenport had three different goal scorers in the game to move to 9-5-0-2 on the year. Davenport will close out the weekend as they host Western Michigan in the final game of their home-and-home series.Â

In the first period, Davenport was able to control the game in the early going, but the Panthers were unable to muster a goal, as the game was scoreless after the first 20 minutes of play.
Jordan Simmonds got the scoring in the second period off a feed from
Chris Eckler.
Matt Ogden continued the scoring for the Panthers in the second period as
Everett Thompson picked up the assists on the goal. In the third period, Western Michigan finally got on the board with nine minutes left in regulation.

Stephen Flood capped off the scoring with 16 seconds left in the game on Eckler picked up his second assist of the night while
Zack Blumke collected his first assist on the night.
Matt Kaludis picked up the win in net making 25 saves as the Panthers out shot the Stallions 48-26 in the game.

After the game head coach
Phil Sweeney talked about his team's performance, "We played well tonight and we had a lot of quality scoring chances. Our counter attack is the best I have seen all season, and our transition game is leading to a lot of very good scoring. Tonight was a fun game to be apart of."

The Panthers will finish out there three game weekend on Saturday night at 5:30 p.m. against Western Michigan at Patterson Ice Center.
