Grand Rapids, Mich. – The Davenport division one hockey team kept their winning streak alive Saturday night as they extended their streak to four games by defeating Western Michigan 6-3.
Travis White lead the way for the Panthers as he picked up his first career hat-trick, scoring two goals in the first, and one in the second. The Panthers will hit the road this Tuesday as they take on Adrian College at 7 p.m.
The first period saw more than half of the game's goals, as there were five scores from the two teams combined.
Travis White accounted for two of those first period goals, with
Winston Hofer tacking on his second of the season.
The two offenses slowed down in the second period, but each were able to exchange goals as Jacob Tarariol evened things up at 3-3, which was then followed by White's third goal of the game to give him the hat trick.
The Panthers were able to pull away come the third period, as
Chris Eckler and
Luke McCarthy each scored for DU, and put the Stallions away to complete the home-and-home sweep.
"We are building momentum, and we are running our systems extremely well and it is really starting to show." Said coach
Phil Sweeney when asked of his teams play Saturday night. "This team has played a lot of good hockey so far this season, and it is really nice to string some wins together. Western is a tough team to play against as they are very physical and they have some very good forwards as well."
The Panthers will have one last game before the thanksgiving break, as they travel to Adrian College to take on the Bulldogs Tuesday night. The puck drops at 7 p.m. sharp.
