GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The fourth-ranked Davenport women's basketball team returned home on Saturday afternoon when they faced WHAC foe Madonna.
Daina Grazulis led Davenport once again with 22 points and 17 rebounds. The Lady Panthers are now 5-0 on the year and are 3-0 in WHAC play. Davenport will be back in action on Tuesday when they host Indiana Tech at the DU Student Center before Thanksgiving break.
Daina Grazulis led the way for the Panthers scoring 22 points and grabbed 17 boards in the game for the Panthers.
Alex Law went 5-for-6 from the field to finish the game with 13 points.
Tiesha Stokes was the third and final Panther in double figures with ten points.
To start the game, Madonna got off to a fast start as they jumped out to an early 8-2 lead over Davenport. After the Panthers took their first lead of the game at 9-8 with 14:23 left in the first half, both tams continued to battle back and fourth as the lead changed hands six more times throughout the half.
The Panthers started to pull away at the end of the half as they led by as many as eight points, but a buzzer-beating three by the Crusaders cut the lead to five points heading into halftime.
Daina Grazulis led all scorers at the half with 12 points and
Alex Law was 4-for-4 in the half as she chipped in with nine points.
In the second half the Panthers continued to pull away from the Crusaders as they pulled ahead by ten points with 10:51 left in regulation after a lay up by Law. Davenport had their largest lead of the game of 20 points with 2:41 left in the game en route to a 73-55 victory.
After shooting just 44.4 percent from the field in the first half, the Panthers shot the ball better in the second half as they shot 57.7 percent in the half to finish at an even 50 percent in the game.
Post-Game Notes Grazulis set a new career high with 17 rebounds in the game and 13 of the 17 boards came on the defensive end. Davenport out rebounded Madonna 54-31 in the game. The 54 rebounds for the Panthers was a new season high for the team.
