GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – After suffering their first loss of the season on Monday, the Davenport men's basketball team rebounded to beat WHAC foe Indiana Tech on Tuesday night.
Dominez Burnett scored 20 points against the Warriors, which was the fourth straight game Burnett scored at least 20 points. Davenport is now 8-1 overall and is 4-0 in the WHAC. DU will now be off for the next eight days before they host Siena Heights on Wednesday, December 3rd at 7:30 p.m.
Dominez Burnett led the Panthers in scoring with another 20 point game, and Burnett also chipped in with six rebounds.
Kevin Rich put up 11 points, which was the third straight he had double figures.
John McCloud and
Bishop Robinson each grabbed seven rebounds.
The Panthers started the game on an 8-0 run in the first 3:23 of the game. Davenport was able to bring their lead up to 12 points with 7:11 left in the first half. Indiana Tech started to make a comeback late in the first half as they cut the Panther lead to 36-28 heading into the half.
Davenport shot 41.2 percent from the field in the first half and Indiana Tech was 42.3 percent from the field. The Panthers forced six Warrior turnovers in the first half, and Burnett led the Panthers with eight points at the half.
The Davenport defense picked up in the second half as they held Indiana Tech to 32.1 percent from the field and was 20.0 percent from behind the arc. In the second half, DU had the shooting touch as they shot 56.0 percent from the field to finish the game shooting 47.5 percent overall.
With the strong shooting in the second half, the Panthers jumped out to their largest lead of the game at 55-37 with 9:30 left in the second half. Burnett scored 12 points in the half, and
Bishop Robinson scored eight of his nine points in the second half as he went 3-for-3 from the field in the half. The Panthers were able finish strong against the Warriors to move to 4-0 in the WHAC with a 71-57 win.
Davenport will now have a few days off for the Thanksgiving break before they get back into WHAC play against Siena Heights on Wednesday, December 3rd at the DU Student Center at 7:30 p.m.
Post-Game Notes After grabbing a season low 26 rebounds on Monday, Davenport grabbed 44 boards on Tuesday night to outrebound Indiana Tech 44-31.
John McCloud was one rebound short of tying his career of eight rebounds set last season, but he set a new season high with seven in the game.
Bishop Robinson tied his season high rebound mark with seven.
