ADRIAN, Mich. – The Davenport D1 hockey team concluded their stretch of playing seven games in 13 days on Tuesday night against Adrian. Luke McCarthy and Everett Thompson score the two Panther goals, but DU lost 3-2 in a shootout against Adrian. Davenport is now 10-5-0-3 on the season and will be off until December 5th when they travel to Ypsilanti, Mich., to face Eastern Michigan at 7:30 p.m.

In the first period, Adrian got the scoring started early and jumped out to an early 1-0. The game started to look like the last meeting between the two teams as the Bulldogs took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission. Like their last meeting a week and a half ago, Adrian picked up another goal in the second period to hold a two-goal lead over the Panthers heading into the third period.

In the previous two matchups against Adrian this season, Davenport was held scoreless in the first two periods, before they found the back of the net in the third period. The Panthers scored their first goal of the game with nine minutes left in regulation, as Luke McCarthy picked up the goal, while Andrew Frank and Chris Eckler picked up the assists.

Davenport pulled goaltender Matt Kaludis looking to tie the game, and Everett Thompson knocked in the game-tying goal with 50 seconds left in regulation. Davenport was looking to keep the momentum heading into overtime, but neither team could score and the game was sent into a shootout. Adrian was able to win the game in a shootout to hand Davenport their third shootout loss of the season.

After the game head coach Phil Sweeny talked about his team's performance during this tough stretch, "We played well defensively, but did not generate much in the first two periods. We turned it up in the third period and battled back. We looked a little sluggish, but finished strong. I think the guys are starting to believe if we play 60 minutes we will be very tough to beat."

The Panthers will now head into the Thanksgiving break before return to action on Friday, December 6th on the road against Eastern Michigan.
