Frazier’s Career Day Highlight Panthers Win Over Saint Francis

JOLIET, Ill. – Senior Kia Frazier scored a career-high 17 points and added a new school record of 12 steals for the program's first double-double in that category in five years, and the No. 4 Davenport women's basketball team lead from start to finish to post an 86-51 non-conference road win over Saint Francis (Ill.) Saturday night.

Frazier, a Grand Rapids native, becomes the first Panther achieve the double-double and break the steals record since Kristi Boehm scored 11 points and record 10 steals against Mobile (Ala.) on Nov. 28, 2009.

Tiesha Stokes also had a double-double, scoring a season-high 22 points and picking up 11 rebounds off the bench to lead the Panthers (7-0). Kayleigh VanKeulen contributed to 12 points, all from 3-point range in the first five minutes to round out Davenport in double figures.

Davenport combined for a 49 shooting percentage from the field while going a season-best 20-for-29 on the free throw line.

Although the Panthers defense held the Saints (2-8) to a 28 shooting percentage, they held three-time NAIA All-American Katie Gonnering to 21. Gonnering was averaging 27.4 points going into the contest.

VanKeulen and Frazier combined for a dozen points within the first 2:35 to ignite the Panthers. Turnovers became an issues for the Saints as they conceded 23 in the first half, allowing the Panthers to produce 29 points off those mistakes.

The Panthers went into intermission leading 53-27. Frazier went 5-of-6 from the field and 3-of-4 from the charity stripe. Stokes had 11 points in seven minutes of work.

Davenport resumes Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play as it faces two NAIA Top 25 opponents on the week. No. 16 Siena Heights will visit the Student Center Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. before the Panthers travel through the Beltline to face No. 24 Cornerstone Saturday.
