FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The fourth-ranked Davenport men's basketball team traveled down to Fort Wayne, Ind., for the Cougar Classic hosted by St. Francis (Ind.) DU kicked off the tournament with an 87-61 victory over St. Catharine (Ky.)
Bishop Robinson led all scorers in the game with a career high 20 points and
John McCloud set a new career high with 16 points in the game. Davenport will play the winner of the St. Francis (Ind.) and Webber International (Fla.) game on Saturday at 3 p.m.
Head coach
Burt Paddock and his men's basketball team started the game with suffocating defense against NAIA DI squad St. Catharine, who was averaging 92.5 points per game to start the season. In the first half,
John McCloud started the game on a roll as he had 12 points in the first half. Redshirt freshman,
Bishop Robinson chipped in with nine points in the half. St. Catharine used a 9-0 run late in the first half to pull within 13 points of Davenport, as the Panthers led 42-29 at halftime.
In the second half, Robinson picked up right where he left in the first half as he tallied 11 more points to end with a game high 20 points. Davenport used a balanced scoring attack throughout the game as ten different players scored for Davenport as the team shot 48.5 percent from the field in the second half, as DU went on to win the game 87-61.
With the win over St. Catharine, Davenport now moves to the championship game of the Cougar Classic, where they will face the winner of the St. Francis (Ind.) and Webber International (Fla.) game at 3 p.m. in Fort Wayne, Ind. At the Hutzell Athletic Center.
