ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. – The Davenport D1 hockey team closed out there three game road swing on Friday night against Rochester College. The Panthers used a strong first period and three different goal scores en route to a 3-1 win over the Warriors. DU will return home Saturday night to close out the weekend series against Rochester College at 5:30 p.m. at Patterson Ice Center.

To start the game, Davenport was able to sustain pressure in the Rochester end for the first part of the period. The Panthers were able to find the back of net with 11:21 left in the first period to break the scoreless tie. Jordan Simmonds scored his team leading eighth goal of the season, while Kody Polin and Mason Bohlinger picked up the assists on the power play goal.

Andrew Frank then followed with his third goal of the season, and Bohlinger picked up his second assist of the night. The Warriors scored a goal with 5:55 left in regulation to cut the Davenport lead to one goal heading into the locker room.

In the second period, Winston Hofer tallied his first goal of the season, as Davenport regained their two-goal lead.  Hofer closed out the scoring in the game as the Warriors tried to make a comeback late in the third period but Panther net minder, Clayton Brown, stood tall in net to secure the 3-1 win for DU.

After the game head coach Phil Sweeney talked about his team's performance tonight, "We played pretty well tonight. The guys blocked a lot of shots, and Rochester had a couple chances late, but Brown was there to make the saves. We will have to play better Saturday night to compete the sweep. We need to string some wins together, and hopefully tonight gets us rolling."

The Panthers will return home for the third time this season as they conclude the home-and-home series against Rochester College at Patterson Ice Center at 5:30 p.m.
