GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The 17th ranked Davenport D1 hockey team took on third-ranked Ohio on Friday night at Patterson Ice Center. Kody Polin scored two goals in the game for the Panthers, but Davenport lost the game 5-3 and dropped to 11-7-1-3 on the season. Davenport will wrap up the weekend series against Ohio on Saturday night at 5:30 p.m.

To start the game, Ohio took advantage of their power play chances as they went 3-for-3 in the period. The Bobcats broke the ice with 14:06 left in the first period. After the Panthers took two penalties in a span of three minutes, the Bobcats were able early to score early on both power plays to take a 3-0 lead. Kody Polin put the Panthers on the board with 4:37 left in the period on backhand from the slot to cut the lead to 3-1 heading into the intermission.

Davenport came out firing to start the second period as Polin tallied his second goal of the game as he knocked a rebound off of a rebounds from Chris Eckler's shot. Ohio regained their two goal lead with 15:42 left in the second period, but Travis White scored just 21 seconds later to cut the Ohio lead to 4-3 after two periods.

In the third period Davenport put a lot of offensive pressure on the Ohio net minder, but Davenport was unable to find the game tying goal. In the final minutes of regulation, the Bobcats were able to add an empty goal to close out the game as Ohio won the game 5-3.

After the game against the Bobcats, head coach Phil Sweeney talked about his team's performance, "We started little slow and it cost us. You cannot spot a top-five team three goals, but I thought we responded very well and we realized we can beat a team like that. I though we took it to them the rest of the game."

Davenport will close out the series against Ohio in Saturday at 5:30 p.m. at Patterson Ice Center.
